HeForShe Arts Week 2021 starting in Ukraine next week

The fourth edition of HeForShe Arts Week in Ukraine will take place March 8-14. The art marathon will bring together museums, galleries, cinemas, and other art institutions around the theme of gender equality and human rights.

This year, UN Women announced "Women's Leadership" as the topic of International Women's Day, and that is why HeForShe Arts Week 2021 decided to spotlight outstanding Ukrainian female artists, their inner strength and passion that inspire followers to new discoveries.

HeForShe Arts Week 2021 consists of 25 events, including performances, film screenings, installations, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, video mapping and more. The events will take place in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr, Severodonetsk, Odesa and Soledar, as well as online. More information can be found at the link.

On the opening day of the arts week buildings and architectural objects will be illuminated with magenta color. Locations:
  • National Opera of Ukraine (Kyiv);
  • Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (Lviv);
  • Dnipro National Historical Museum (Dnipro).
All objects will be lightened simultaneously on March 8 at 18:00.

The key event of HeForShe Arts Week 2021 is the Women in Arts Award, which is happening in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute. On March 12, during the closed award ceremony, the names of the winners of the Women In Arts Award 2021 will be announced. The award is given in 7 nominations:
  • Visual art
  • Music
  • Theater
  • Movie
  • Literature
  • Cultural management
  • Cultural journalism, criticism and research
This year was added a special eighth nomination – the Special Award to the women who are not professional artists, but have made an important contribution to Ukrainian culture. Journalist, volunteer and veteran Valeriia Burlakova became the first winner of the Special Award.

HeForShe movement, founded by the UN Women, is a global movement of solidarity in support of gender equality, in which men and boys become the main agents of change. HeForShe movement in Ukraine is implemented with the financial support of Sweden.
