Within the framework of the Kyiv International Economic Forum 2018 with the theme “Creating the Future in a High-Tech World” Stepan Ryabchenko presented his personal exhibition entitled “Digital Nature”, which combined works from different series. The theme of human relations and nature – as ancient as the world itself, but in new historical conditions, the artist is looking for new ways of understanding it. Working with computer technology, he uses one of the results of human-made development of mankind as an instrument for finding harmony with the original sources.
Baroque forms, biomorphic contours, bright colors, combined with refined coldness of a glossy digital image, sharpen the sound of the main actual motive of Ryabchenko’s creativity – the boundaries between virtual and material reality, between the world of numbers and analogues, between artificial and natural. Destruction of this boundary, the author follows the all-inclusive global trend – “digitization” and complementing reality.
Ryabchenko’s creativity is his own digital universe with his laws, myths and characters. Each hero of the “Virtual Flowers” series, walking in virtual spaces, is endowed with his own history and created by the author with the attention and diligence of a beautiful gardener, since flowers are a symbol of life, creation, hope. “Electronic Winds”, once unrestrained, then quiet, once warm, then ice, alternately drive waves with boundless digital ocean.
Enriched with animation on LED panels, they become even closer to the viewer. Panels do not stand close to the walls, but placed in space in such way that the viewer passes between them as a maze. The exposition is built as a kind of antifilade, the completion of which is the crown of “Virtual Flowers”.

The reverse side of the panel is “backstage”, where the wires lie and the technical component is exposed, usually – just a deaf dark back. Ryabchenko also uses this space so that he receives his “afterlife” of life by projection of images from the “Viruses” series.
The computer virus in the modern world has become a common element of everyday life, almost a social unit, each of which has its own history and features of interaction with the system. Based on this, the artist visualized the virtual nature of the viruses, giving them a form and an image. The dark side of digital reality on the dark side of the light panels, revealing the nature of information reality: as everywhere in our system of ideas about the world, it has its origins, its laws, imperfections and advantages, lives its life, which may not always depend on human.
